The City of Alhambra          

 

 

The City of Alhambra was named after the book "The Alhambra" by Washington Irving about a Moorish palace in Granada, Spain called "The Gateway to the San Gabriel Valley".  Alhambra was incorporated in 1903 and is located 8 miles from downtown Los Angeles.  However, it was founded in 1874 and has been a center of commerce ever since.  Close to many major freeways, this 7.6 square mile city is perfect for your transportation needs.  It is an ideal suburban community with a population over 85,000.  The zip codes that represent Alhambra are 91801, 91803, and P.O. boxes 91802.  The number of households as per the 2000 census is 29,111 with 20,668 families .
