South Pasadena

South Pasadena was laid out by O.R. Dougherty of the South Pasadena Land Office on the land of the Indiana Colony and incorporated in 1888.  The name Pasadena is a Chippewa Indian word.  This 3.44 square mile city is home to more than 24,000 people.  The residents of these historic California Craftsman-style houses are continually striving to preserve a small-town atmosphere.  It was connected with downtown Los Angeles by way of the MTA Gold Line not long ago.
South Pasadena has many restaurants and shops as well as new "mixed use" developments and lofts with historic homes.  The city has its own police and fire departments along with parks and a recreation program and public library.  The tree lined streets with California trees and Oaks make it a popular site for location filming.  The City flower is the Orange Blossom.

Schools include South Pasadena High School and a private school, Holy Family Catholic School.  With six parks to choose from, it is a great family city.
